Tips for Deep Cleaning Your Bathroom

The Bathroom

Similar to the kitchen, we recommend cleaning your bathroom top to bottom to avoid relocating dust to other lower surfaces.  To begin we’ll start with the top of your cabinets. For cabinet cleaning you will need,

• A Vacuum with a hose
• A bucket of warm soapy water (we recommend dish soap) & a sponge or rag
• Furniture polish & rag

Once you have all your supplies you’re ready to begin!

• Top of Cabinet Cleaning: If you have bathroom cabinets, and they do not extend to the top  of your ceiling, grab a vacuum with a hose attachment and vacuum the top to eliminate dust. Grab a bucket of soap & warm water and scrub the tops of your cabinets to get rid of any remaining dust or cobwebs.
• Inside Your Cabinets: Remove toiletries & ensure they are clean, follow the same steps of washing the insides of your cabinets with the warms soapy water mixture. Dry with paper towel or a dry rag.
• Cabinet Doors: Take the same steps by scrubbing with warm soapy water. If you have dark cabinets you may went to spray with a furniture/dust polish like pledge.

Next you will want to focus on fans & light fixtures. Fans & light fixtures are notorious for accumulating dust that can be difficult to clean. Make sure you hit where your ceiling mats your wall while cleaning your light fixtures. For your best cleaning results we recommend using,

• A dusting wand (an example can be found here)
• A bucket of warm soapy water (we recommend dish soap) & a sponge or rag for your fan
• Glass cleaner & a rag or paper towel

All fans & light fixtures are different dependent on the bathroom, Below is a general guide on how to clean each fixture, but use discretion when cleaning to avoid damage.

• Cleaning Your Fan & Light Fixture: Begin by dusting with your dusting wand, & make sure you are using a clean attachment. If you re able to remove your fan cover, remove and clean with warm soapy water mixture. We do not recommend using your warm soapy water mixture on light fixtures to avoid damage & for safety purposes.

Next up is your vanity & counter space including your bathroom sink. For best results you’ll need,

• A bucket of warm soapy water (we recommend dish soap) & a sponge or rag
• All purpose spray/cleaner & a paper towel
• Scrubbing bubbles or foaming cleaner, sponge & toothbrush
• Glass cleaner & rage or paper towel

Once you have your supplies begin with the cleaning your mirror. To start you will want to clear your entire counter off and remove any toiletries. Make sure to wipe down any towel racks, light switches/outlets etc. around your vanity space.

• Cleaning the mirror: spray your glass cleaner and wipe in a circular motion to remove dust and smudges.
• Cleaning the counter: take your warm soapy water mixture and scrub your counter down. For an even deeper clean you can then clean and wipe down with an all purpose cleaner.
• Cleaning the sink:  to clean your bathroom sink spray with a foaming bathroom cleanser & wait. Once the foaming cleanser  has set take. sponge with warm water and wipe down. Use a toothbrush to clean crevices within the sink/drain area as well as the handles & faucet.

Next you ill want to clean your bathtub & shower. For this you will need,

• Scrubbing bubbles or foaming cleaner, sponge & toothbrush

Once you have your supplies ready spray your bathtub & shower down from top to bottom with foaming cleaner. Allow this to sit for about 10 minutes.

• Cleaning your bathtub & shower: take a sponge (non abrasive side) with warm water and wipe down the surface area of the shower and bathtub from top to bottom. Use a tooth brush for grout & faucet area. Don’t forget to do  this for the shower head as well.

Now for everyone’s least favorite project, the toilet. To clean your toilet you’ll need,

• Toilet bowl cleaner & a toilet brush
• Dust spray & a paper towel
• A bucket of warm soapy water (we recommend dish soap) & a sponge or rag

Once you have all of your cleaning materials,

• To Clean the Toilet:  First, line. the inside of the bowl with toilet bowl cleaner& let it sit. While you’re waiting, dust the outside of your toilet from to to bottom. If you avoid dusting prior to scrubbing  dust & hair will stick to the exterior of your toilet due to the natural moisture in the bathroom. After dusting, scrub your toilet with the warm soapy water mixture. Finally, take your toilet bowl brush & scrub the inside of your toilet.

Finally to wrap up cleaning your bathroom you’ll want to clean the floor. To clean the floor you’ll need,

• A vacuum
• A bucket of warm soapy water (we recommend dish soap) & toothbrush
• A swifter wet jet, or similar mop

Start by cleaning your baseboards and work your way down to avoid cascading dust.

• Cleaning the Baseboards: Take your warm soapy water mixture with a toothbrush & scrub your baseboards to eliminate dust & grime.
• Cleaning the Floor: First vacuum the floor to eliminate dust & hair. Then take your mop or swifter wet jet and go over your floor to deep clean.
