What to Pack For Your First Night in Your New Home

The first night in your new home is an exciting experience. After all of the hectic preparation of moving, preparing your overnight bag for your first overnight stay in your new place is the final step prior to being officially moved in. Keep in mind these bags will need to be separate from your moving boxes, and transported in your own vehichle. We’ve broken down a few overnight bag scenarios for you & your entire family.

Adult Overnight Bag:

Personal Documents: Including drivers license, passports, social security cards, birth certificates, etc. Keeping these on hand and in a safe place while moving is crucial to avoid losing them.
Medications: Any medications that is needed should be packed in personal bags to avoid losing them, and so they are on hand during your first night in your new home. This should include any medications your child may also need.
Toiletries: this can include,
Toothbrush & Toothpaste
Haircare products (i.e hairbrush, curling iron, shampoo & conditioner, etc.)
Skincare products (i.e facial cleanser, moisturizer, etc.)
Razor/Shaving Items
Soap/Body Wash
Toilet Paper
Electronics & Charging Chords:
Cellular Phone & Charger
Laptop or Tablet & Charger
Clothing:
Pajamas
Change of clothes for the next day
One backup change of clothes

Child Overnight Bag

Toiletries:
Toothbrush & Toothpaste
Haircare products
Soap
Electronics & Charging Chords:
Tablet & Tablet Charger
Clothing:
Pajamas
Change of clothes for the next day
One backup change of clothes
Diapers/Pullups/Wipes (if applicable)
Entertainment:
Books
Toys (that are easy to transport like a stuffed animal, coloring book, etc.)
Board Games

Pet Overnight Bag:

Pet Food & Treats: Ensure you bring enough for a few days worth of meals
Leash/Harness/Collar: Make sure to update your pet’s ID tags with all of your new information. A helpful guide on how to do so can be found here.
Litter/Litter Box (if applicable)
Crate/Cage
Toys
